The memorial stands about 500 meters into the sea at the southernmost tip of India. It was established in 1970 through the efforts of Shri Eknath Ranade, overcoming political and financial challenges. A meditation hall (Dhyana Mandapam) is attached to the memorial and incorporates various Indian architectural styles.

📖 About the Statue
The Thiruvalluvar Statue is a 133-ft tall stone sculpture of the Tamil poet and philosopher Thiruvalluvar, the author of the Thirukkural.
It is located on a small island near Kanyakumari, at the southernmost tip of the Indian peninsula where the Bay of Bengal, the Arabian Sea, and the Indian Ocean meet. The statue stands 95 ft tall atop a 38-ft pedestal, which symbolizes the 38 chapters on 'Virtue' in the Thirukkural. The statue itself represents 'Wealth' and 'Pleasure', signifying that both must rest upon a foundation of 'Virtue'. The combined height of 133 ft represents the 133 chapters of the Thirukkural. The total weight of the structure is around 7,000 tons.
